🌳 Build the Full-Stack Developer SkillForest

A Free, Collaborative Online Workshop Series for Full-Stack Developers

Workshop 2: Discover the Skills Behind Full-Stack Development

Full-stack development is changing fast — frontend, backend, cloud, DevOps, AI-assisted development. With so much to learn, one question becomes surprisingly hard to answer:

What skills does a modern Full-Stack Developer actually need — and what should you learn next?

Instead of handing you another predefined skills framework, we'll build one together with you. Over three collaborative workshops, we'll create a Full-Stack Developer SkillForest — a visual map of the tasks and skills behind the profession and how they connect.

In this second workshop, we will build on the tasks identified in Part 1: Tasks and uncover the skills, knowledge, and capabilities needed to perform them successfully.

After the series, you'll get access to the finished SkillForest in the Skillforests app to guide your own growth.

🌳 Free participation · Only 12 seats available

🌿 Workshop 2 — Discover the Skills

In Part 1, we explored a fundamental question:

What does a Full-Stack Developer actually do?

In this second workshop, we take the next step:

What skills, knowledge, and capabilities are needed to perform those tasks successfully?

Together with other Full-Stack Developers, you will examine the tasks identified in the first workshop and uncover the skills behind them.

  • Which technical skills are required?
  • Which skills are shared across frontend and backend development?
  • Which capabilities are foundational, and which require more advanced experience?
  • Which important skills are often overlooked?
  • How are AI-assisted development and new tools changing the role?

You do not need to have attended Part 1. New participants can review the existing work and contribute their own experience and perspective.

The result of this workshop becomes the foundation for Part 3: Trees, where we connect the skills and organize them into clear development paths.

Why Join?

  • 🔎 See the bigger picture — and learn from your peers. Explore the skills behind Full-Stack Development across different teams, companies, and technology environments. Compare your experience with other developers and discover capabilities you may not encounter in your current role.

  • 🌳 Build a SkillForest you can actually use. Help create a Full-Stack Developer SkillForest based on real professional experience. After completing the series, you'll get access to the finished SkillForest in the Skillforests app, where you can explore your capabilities, track your development, and guide your next steps.

  • 🚀 Grow your career with more focus and direction. Learn the SkillForest method for structuring your professional development. Understand your strengths and gaps, see what to learn next, and avoid trying to learn everything at once. This gives you a clearer development path and a better understanding of your professional value.

🌳 From Tasks to a Full-Stack Developer SkillForest

This workshop is the second step in a three-part journey. Across three Wednesday evenings, we move from understanding the work of a Full-Stack Developer to creating a complete SkillForest for the profession.

The 3-Part Full-Stack Developer SkillForest Journey

Workshop Date & Time Focus
🌱 Part 1: TASKS Wednesday, August 12, 2026
19:00–21:00 JST
12:00–14:00 CEST
What do Full-Stack Developers actually do? Discover and structure the tasks and responsibilities behind the profession.
🌿 Part 2: SKILLS Wednesday, August 19, 2026
19:00–21:00 JST
12:00–14:00 CEST
What skills and knowledge do those tasks require? Identify the capabilities behind the work discovered in Part 1.
🌳 Part 3: TREES Wednesday, August 26, 2026
19:00–21:00 JST
12:00–14:00 CEST
How do those skills connect and build upon each other? Turn our collective work into a Full-Stack Developer SkillForest.

You can attend individual sessions, and new participants can build on the work created in previous workshops. However, because each workshop builds on the previous one, you'll get the most value by joining the complete journey.

What Will We Create?

Together, we'll build a Full-Stack Developer SkillForest — created by Full-Stack Developers.

In this workshop, we will identify and organize the skills needed to perform the tasks behind modern Full-Stack Development.

The finished SkillForest will help you:

  • 🔎 see the skills that shape modern Full-Stack Development
  • 💪 understand your strengths and skill gaps
  • 🎯 know what to learn next
  • 🌱 follow clear paths for your professional growth

What Participants Say About the SkillForest Approach

Engineering Manager

"Breaking down the qualities necessary for a role into tasks, then into skills, and organizing them into a path you can follow gives me a new perspective on developing my capabilities. It helps me advance my career."

Frontend Engineer

"Agreeing on SkillForest definitions that provide clear orientation and are accepted by everyone is a collaborative group exercise that improves teamwork and performance."

Who This Is For

This workshop is for everyone who actively works in Full-Stack Development or has meaningful professional experience in the field.

You don't need to be a senior developer or know every technology. What matters is that you have practical experience you can bring into the discussion.

You are welcome to join even if you did not attend Part 1: Tasks. The existing task map will be available, allowing you to review the previous work and contribute directly to the skill discovery process.

This is not a beginner course that teaches you how to become a Full-Stack Developer.

It is a collaborative workshop where Full-Stack Developers use their combined experience to identify and structure the skills behind their profession.

What Is SkillForest?

SkillForest is a visual approach to skill and competency development that turns professional capabilities into interconnected trees and forests.

Instead of treating skills as an isolated checklist, SkillForest shows how capabilities relate to each other and which skills provide the foundation for further development. This creates visible learning paths that help individuals understand what they already know, where they want to grow, and what they could learn next.

For teams, the same approach makes existing capabilities and skill gaps visible, helping people better understand each other's knowledge and development.

Limited Free Seats Available

This is a hands-on workshop, not a webinar.

You will actively work together with other Full-Stack Developers to identify, discuss, and organize the skills behind the profession. The value comes from the different experiences and perspectives participants bring into the room, so we intentionally keep the group small enough for everyone to contribute.

Participation is 100% free.

Only 12 seats available.

Complete all three workshops, and you'll leave with access to the finished Full-Stack Developer SkillForest in the Skillforests app — created together with the other developers in the series.

FAQ

Is the workshop really free?

Yes. Participation in the workshop is 100% free. You'll also receive free access to the Skillforests app, including the Full-Stack Developer SkillForest we create together.

Do I need to attend Part 1: Tasks before joining?

No. You can join Part 2 even if you did not attend the first workshop. You will be able to review the task map created in Part 1 and continue from the existing work.

However, attending the complete series gives you the most value and the greatest opportunity to influence the finished SkillForest.

Do I have to attend all three workshops?

No. You can join an individual session, and people joining later can continue from the work created in previous workshops.

However, we strongly recommend attending all three sessions if possible, as each session builds on the previous one. Joining the complete series allows you to experience and influence the entire journey from discovering the tasks to creating the final Full-Stack Developer SkillForest.

Will the workshop be recorded?

No. The workshop will not be recorded.

This is a hands-on working session built around collaborative exercises and discussion rather than presentations. Please join live and be prepared to actively participate.

What tools do I need?

You need a computer, a stable internet connection, and a modern web browser.

We will use Zoom for the online session and Mural for collaborative exercises. Please make sure you can access these tools before the workshop.

Most importantly, bring your experience and perspective as a Full-Stack Developer. Please join from an environment where you can actively participate in discussions and collaborative exercises.
